About the museum
At Sørlistøa timber-floating museum you can find objects, boats, buildings and installations from the floating era. The museum shows both cross-river floating and lake floating of timber. Timber was floated on Osensjøen and the surrounding areas from the second half of the 1700s until 1984. Sørlistøa was for many years the base for the floating, and when the floating ceased, the installation was preserved and converted into a museum.
The old tug MS Trysilknut lies at the quay by the museum and runs trips on Osensjøen in summer. The museum is on the west side of Osensjøen in Åmot municipality and is open in summer. In 2025 the exhibition “Gull fra grønne skoger” (“Gold from Green Forests”) opened, which tells the story of the timber floater's trade and of how the timber was transported to industry and the coast.
Sørlistøa timber-floating museum is a sub-branch of Norsk skogmuseum at Anno museum.
