About the museum

Trysil bygdetun was founded in 1901 and is regarded as Norway's oldest local museum. The farmyard lies in Innbygda in Trysil and consists of 21 antiquarian buildings that show how people lived in the district in the 1600s, 1700s and 1800s. The oldest building dates from around 1650. The collection includes dwelling houses, farm buildings and buildings from the outlying land (utmarka), among them the three most common house types: trestuehus (timber-stove house), loftstue (loft room) and stue with an Akershus ground plan. The meeting of eastern and western building traditions gives the buildings their character.

Trysil is a typical forest and mountain district, and on the slopes behind the farmyard a complete seter (mountain summer farm) has been set up. Among the buildings there is also an oppgangssag (up-and-down saw), a kvern (grain mill) and a badstu (bathhouse). The farmyard lies on a hill east of the town centre, with a view towards Trysilfjellet.

The museum is part of Anno Trysil Engerdal museum and thus of Anno museum. The farmyard and the café are open every summer, and the outdoor area is accessible all year round.
