About the museum
The gallery occupies four rooms on the upper floor of the Ritter family’s townhouse from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, which stands on the corner of the market square and ul. Jagiellońska in Nowy Sącz. The house belonged to a burgher family from Sącz, and many of the furnishings and mementos are family heirlooms or objects from this and other Sącz houses.
The first room presents a monographic exhibition of paintings by Maria Ritter (1899–1976), a well-known painter from Sącz, together with mementos from her studio. Further on, visitors see stylised interiors: a green salon in the spirit of Biedermeier of the 19th century, in which the only works from the 20th century are portraits by Ritter; a white salon with light furniture, a music box and paintings by Feliks Hanusz; and a bedroom in the Louis-Philippe style, with Viennese portraits of the painter’s grandparents, Feliks and Józefa Ritter.

The historic townhouse has barriers: changes in level, narrow passages, two stone steps at the entrance and steep stone stairs to the exhibition. There is no toilet in the building. The museum has no car park of its own. The paid public car park at the Basilica of St Margaret (entrance from Bulwar Narwika) has a space for people with disabilities, but steep stairs lead from there to the museum.
