About the museum
The Sądecki Park Etnograficzny (Sądecki Ethnographic Park) is a branch of the Muzeum Ziemi Sądeckiej and the largest open-air museum in Lesser Poland. On an area of 20 hectares, 79 objects of folk architecture have been gathered: dwellings, churches, farm and industrial buildings and small structures. The open-air museum is divided into eight sectors.
The exhibition presents the chronological, property-based and social differentiation of the folk culture of the Sącz region. It presents the local ethnographic groups – the Lachy, Pogórzanie and Górale Sądeccy (Sącz Highlanders) – and the ethnic groups Lemkos, Germans and Roma. The most interesting objects include peasant farmsteads, a seventeenth-century manor house with unique polychrome interiors, a manor farm, and eighteenth-century churches: a Roman Catholic church, a Greek Catholic church and a Protestant church.
In one sector the buildings of German colonists from Gołkowice Dolne have been recreated; on the edge of the forest there is a small Roma settlement; and in the rural industry sector there is a mill, a fulling mill and two sawmills powered by water. The thematic exhibitions “Izba weselna” (Wedding Room) and “Maziarstwo łemkowskie” (the traditional Lemko maziarstwo craft) broaden knowledge of the region’s traditions. In season, demonstrations of traditional crafts, regional cuisine and folklore events are held in the open-air museum. Adjacent to it is the Miasteczko Galicyjskie (Galician Town), a separate branch of the museum.

Because of the village-type layout of the museum, moving around the open-air museum and entering the buildings is difficult: the ground is uneven, the roads are unpaved, thresholds are high, doors are narrow and ceilings are low. Facilities are available in selected objects: in the German colonists’ sector, at the entrance from the Galician Town side, there is a temporary-exhibition room adapted for wheelchair users, and in the Galician Town there is a toilet adapted for people with limited mobility. The ticket office on the Galician Town side is adapted for wheelchair users; the main ticket office on Długoszowskiego Street has steps and a threshold. The toilet at the main ticket office is not adapted. Wheelchairs are not lent out, but an assistant can be requested if you register two weeks in advance (tel. +48 18 441 44 12). Cars carrying people with disabilities may park next to the open-air museum’s office.
