About the museum
The idea of setting up a museum in Rogoźno arose in 1958, during the celebrations of the town’s 700th anniversary, when an exhibition on its history was organised. The museum opened on 29 January 1983 with the exhibition “Z dziejów Rogoźna” (From the History of Rogoźno). Since January 1991 it has operated within the structures of the Rogozińskie Centrum Kultury (Rogoźno Cultural Centre), and on 3 May 1991 it was named after Wojciecha Dutkiewicz, a teacher and regional activist.
The institution is housed in the classicist building of the former Ratusz Nowomiejski (New Town Hall), built in 1826–1828 and extended in 1911–1913. The exhibition space exceeds 350 m², and the collections, which number more than 10,000 exhibits, are being expanded through donations, purchases and the work of staff. So far the museum has organised more than 280 temporary exhibitions.
The permanent exhibitions present the history, nature and folk culture of Greater Poland. They comprise a historical exhibition, a natural history exhibition, an ethnographic exhibition and a multimedia ethnographic exhibition. The museum also runs museum lessons, lectures, competitions and workshops, and every year it takes part, among other events, in Museum Night.
