About the museum
Ernst Wiechert, a German-language writer associated with Masuria, was born in 1887 in the forester's lodge in Piersławek (formerly Kleinort), where he spent his childhood and early youth. Masurian landscapes frequently appear in his novels. The author himself was a critic of National Socialism and for this reason was held in a concentration camp for several months.
The memorial room devoted to the writer was set up in the forester's lodge in the second half of the 20th century. In spring 2007 it was moved to a renovated outbuilding on the same property. The site is managed by the Nadleśnictwo Strzałowo (Strzałowo Forest District), and it receives expert support from the Muzeum Warmii i Mazur w Olsztynie (Museum of Warmia and Masuria in Olsztyn).
The exhibition features the writer's works in the original and in Polish translations, documents, commemorative prints and photographs, as well as personal souvenirs such as a slate writing tablet and a leather wallet. Plaques marking Wiechert's successive birthday anniversaries hang on the wall of the building, and his brother Paul's grave is nearby.
