About the museum
The Military Equipment Museum in Mrągowo is a private institution founded in 2010 by local collector Sławomir Trzeciakiewicz. It is entered in the register of museums kept by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and the owner had been gathering vehicles for many years before that.
The collection numbers almost 200 vehicles, mainly from the equipment of the Warsaw Pact armies and the Polish Army. Its gems are four main battle tanks used in Poland from the Second World War to the present: the T-34, T-55, Merida and T-72, as well as the WZT-2 technical support vehicle, the BLG-67 tank bridge, MT-LB transporters and amphibious vehicles, artillery tractors and the high-speed BAT dozer. The oldest exhibits are two lorries from the Second World War: the GMC CCKW and the Dodge WC-51.
A large part of the space is taken up by command vehicles and radio stations, referring to the tradition of the no-longer-existing Mrągowo unit, the 9th Communications Specialists Training Centre (Ośrodek Szkolenia Specjalistów Łączności). The exhibition is housed in spacious tent halls, so visits are possible also in bad weather. This is an interactive museum: you can get into some of the vehicles, and rides on selected tracked and wheeled vehicles are organised. The collections also include fire, militia and police cars.
