About the museum
The Muzeum Reformacji Polskiej w Mikołajkach (Museum of the Polish Reformation in Mikołajki) was founded in 1973 by Father Władysław Pilchowski (1913–2008), parish priest of the local Evangelical-Augsburg parish of the Holy Trinity, with the support of Prof. Stanisław Lorentz. For many years it was practically the only museum of this kind in Poland. Since 2002 it has been housed in a new building next to the parish, on Plac Kościelny (Church Square).
The collection includes monuments of Polish Evangelical literature and printing in Masuria up to 1945, and objects connected with the religious and cultural life of the region, including Cieszyn Silesia. It shows, among other things, the oldest early printed book from 1658, parish registers, a Polish Bible from 1726, periodicals, documents and photographs, and old maps of the region.
The exhibition presents the Reformation of the 16th century as a pan-European phenomenon rather than merely a regional one. Descriptions of the exhibits are also available in German, and tours are conducted in Polish and German.
