About the museum

Władysław Stanisław Reymont, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, owned the palace in Kołaczkowo from 1920 to 1925. In 1920 he bought the estate of around 213 hectares from the Settlement Office in Poznań. He spent the summer and autumn months here and returned to Warsaw for the winter. Guests at the palace included Kornel Makuszyński, Roman Dmowski and Adam Grzymała-Siedlecki. After the writer's death, his wife Aurelia sold the estate to the Poznań doctor Antoni Jurasz.

The Izba Pamięci (Memorial Room) operates at the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury im. Wł. Reymonta (Reymont Municipal Cultural Centre), which is based in the same palace and occupies part of the first floor. Until 10 April 2024 it displayed an original set of the writer's furniture, on loan from the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature in Warsaw; the furniture has since returned to its owner.

The exhibition now includes copies of the writer's letters and postcards, copies of documents on the purchase and management of the estate, a plan of the property, old editions of his works, stamps, postcards and photographs of Reymont. On the walls of the study hang photographs of the interiors of the library and study in the writer's Warsaw apartment, as well as views of the gazebo and the hornbeam avenue in the park. In the park behind the palace stand silver spruces from Reymont's time, a lime avenue and a monument from 1977 showing the author of “Chłopi” (The Peasants) with Jagna and Boryna.
