About the museum
The idea of a museum in Słupca emerged as early as the 1920s, when the mayor Tadeusz Parys began gathering documents and objects relating to the town’s past in 1925. He assembled several dozen exhibits, of which only an album from the unveiling of the monument to those who fell for freedom has survived in the collections. In 1932 a museum room was set up in the elementary school.
The institution proper, the Muzeum Ziemi Słupeckiej (Słupca Land Museum), began its activity on 21 January 1975, and in 2025 it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Today the Muzeum Regionalne w Słupcy is at ul. Warszawska 53 and is the only institution of its kind in the town and the county. It organises exhibitions, museum lessons, meetings, Noce w Muzeum (Museum Nights), Odpustowe Spotkania and organ concerts, and it carries out research.
The permanent exhibitions present the prehistory of Słupca and its surroundings, including a model of a Lusatian culture stronghold, as well as ethnographic collections and the crafts of the former Greater Poland village. Outside stands a lapidarium with fragments of gravestones from the Jewish cemetery destroyed in 1942, and in the park by the Stawek pond there is an open-air exhibition on twelve people associated with Słupca.
