About the museum
The Regionalna Izba Spółdzielczości Bankowej (Regional Room of Banking Cooperatives) was established on the initiative of Stefan Bachorz, then director of the Powiatowy Bank Spółdzielczy (District Cooperative Bank) in Września. From 1998 to 2001 the collections were housed in the bank building at Warszawska Street in Września. On 13 June 2001 the exhibition was opened in Kołaczkowo, marking the 130th anniversary of banking cooperatives in the district. The origins of the movement date back to 1871, when a loan association (Towarzystwo Pożyczkowe) was founded in Września, from which the later cooperative bank grew.
The room occupies part of the first floor of the former palace of Władysław Reymont at Plac Reymonta 1, which also houses the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury (Municipal Cultural Centre) and a memorial room dedicated to the writer. The exhibition is run by the Municipal Cultural Centre.
The collection includes the bank’s original founding documents and later records of its activities, as well as materials sent by other cooperative banks in Greater Poland. Visitors will see office machines and equipment, from the pencil and abacus to computers, as well as old banknotes, membership cards, commemorative books, uniforms, banners, decorations and portraits of distinguished bankers, including Father Piotr Wawrzyniak.
