About the museum

The first exhibits for the regional room began to be collected together with the founding of the Towarzystwo Miłośników Kujaw in Radziejów at the beginning of the 1960s. For decades the collections moved from place to place. They were kept, among other places, in the town hall, in buildings by the market square and on ul. Kościuszki, in the Cech Rzemiosł Różnych (Guild of Various Crafts), in the town office and, from 2002, in the Miejska i Powiatowa Biblioteka Publiczna (Municipal and District Public Library).

Since 15 September 2016 the room and the society have been housed in the building of the Old Rectory (Stara Plebania) at ul. Kruszwickiej 1, made available thanks to the kindness of the parish priest. The official opening took place on 13 February 2017. The room was set up and is run through the commitment of the society’s members and donors. The collections are multi-themed and include historic objects from the Kuyavia region, with a special focus on the history and culture of Radziejów and its surroundings.

The exhibits are arranged in five rooms. The Sala edukacji regionalnej (Regional Education Hall) holds book collections from manor houses, paintings from plein-air events, sculptures, old clocks and photographs. The Izba kujawska (Kuyavian room), the sień (vestibule) and the alkierz (alcove) recreate old interiors with vessels, household tools, dowry chests and traditional furniture. The history room contains archaeological collections, memorabilia from the Second World War, maps, coins and fragments of tombstones (macewy).

Permanent exhibitions

• Izba kujawska, sień i alkierz – Recreated interiors of old Kuyavian houses with vessels, kitchen utensils, tools, dowry chests, a bed, a cradle and a trestle table (stół krzyżak).
• Sala historyczna – Collections on the history of Radziejów and its surroundings: archaeological finds, finds from the Second World War, maps, coins and fragments of tombstones.
