About the museum
The Stanisław Noakowski Museum in Nieszawa is a branch of the Museum of the Kuyavian and Dobrzyń Land in Włocławek. The first biographical museum devoted to Noakowski was set up in 1934 in the parish house where the artist was born, and it operated until the outbreak of the Second World War. The institution was reactivated in 1983 as a branch of the Włocławek museum, and in 2010 it underwent a thorough renovation and extension.
The museum is housed in a classicist tenement house from the first half of the 19th century, standing on the north side of the Nieszawa market square. From 1868 to 1877 the Noakowski family lived in it. The museum is monographic in character: it collects documents and souvenirs relating to Stanisław Noakowski (1867–1928), architect, architectural theorist, educator, draughtsman and painter, as well as archival materials on the history of Nieszawa.
On the ground floor there are two rooms devoted to the life and work of Noakowski: a biographical room, set up as a reconstructed notary's office, and a room with his drawings and watercolours from 1916–1925 in a reconstructed salon from the 1870s. The upper floor shows works by Ludwik Bouchard (1828–1912), Noakowski's teacher: paintings, watercolours, drawings, ceramics and furniture designed by him. The building also houses a multimedia room, where temporary exhibitions, concerts, historical evenings and film screenings take place.
