About the museum
The museum in Trzęsacz opened in 2000; in its current, fully multimedia form it has been operating since May 2014. Its initiator and founder was Władysław Jagiełło, a great admirer of Trzęsacz, who wanted to present the history of the region in a modern way that is understandable to visitors of all ages. The museum still bears his name in his honour.
The institution is located at ul. Klifowa, about 50 metres from the ruins of the church standing right above the cliff edge. Instead of classic display cases, visitors watch presentations with sound, light and images, prepared together with European specialists in renovated interiors.
The exhibition consists of four rooms. The first tells of the formation of the cliff and changes in the coastline. The second, with an underwater atmosphere, presents the legend of a mermaid, daughter of the King of the Baltic, and Neptune, and is aimed especially at children. The third is devoted to the church itself, and in the fourth visitors can experience the moment the church collapses. The presentation is given in Polish and German. The museum also tells the history of the ruins: in 1850 the church stood about 5 metres from the cliff edge, and in 1870 barely a metre away.
