About the museum
The Muzeum Kamieni (Museum of Stones) in Kamień Pomorski is a private venture of the Sokołowski family, who also run the Muzeum Mineralogiczne in Szklarska Poręba. It was established in 2001. Its seat is the Baszta i Brama Wolińska (Wolin Tower and Gate) from the 14th century, one of several surviving towers of the former town walls.
The collection of more than two and a half thousand exhibits includes dinosaur fossils, among them skeletons of Deinonychus and Ornitholestes, bones of Tyrannosaurus, Allosaurus, Baryonyx, Coelophysis and Struthiomimus, as well as a fossilised nest with eggs. There are also numerous minerals, including the largest amethyst druse in Poland, amber and meteorites, among them Gibeon, Sikhote-Alin and Campo del Cielo.
The exhibition includes a historical section on the history of the town and replicas of old weapons and medieval armour. For children there is an archaeological sandpit, and a film about dinosaurs is shown during the visit. From the tower terraces there is a view of Kamień Pomorski and the Zalew Kamieński (Kamień Lagoon).
