About the museum
The first diocesan museum in Włocławek existed from 1870 at the diocesan seminary. The museum in its present form was re-established in 1995 by decree of the Bishop of Włocławek, and reopened to visitors in 2005.
The seat is the former college of cathedral vicars at Plac Kopernika 3, built in 1732–1736 at the initiative of Bishop Krzysztof Antoni Szembek. The expansion was decided in 2007, and construction began in March 2011. The renovation was completed in 2012: the historic appearance of the building was restored, and a modern wing with a hall for exhibitions and concerts was added.
In eight rooms and in the corridor, more than two thousand items are displayed in chronological order: Renaissance and Baroque liturgical vestments, illuminated incunabula, seventeenth-century liturgical vessels from Augsburg, paintings and sculptures (including a Pietà), Rococo furniture, memorabilia of John Paul II, portraits of the bishops of Kuyavia, and a copy of the Kielich Włocławski. Separate rooms commemorate Bishop Michał Kozal and Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński.
