About the museum
The Muzeum Dobrzyńskie (Dobrzyń Museum) was founded in 1994 on the initiative of the Klub Miłośników Ziemi Dobrzyńskiej PTTK (Dobrzyń Land Enthusiasts’ Club of the PTTK). Its first premises were the attic of a municipal kindergarten at ul. Lipnowskiej 6, but the technical conditions there did not allow the collections to be shown to visitors.
With the support of the town authorities, the History Room (Sala Historii) in the Dobrzyński Dom Kultury “Żak” was renovated, and in 2005 the Dobrzyń Museum opened there. The cultural centre is at ul. Szkolna 2 in Dobrzyń nad Wisłą and is a municipal cultural institution.
The exhibition presents the history of the town and the Dobrzyń Land. It shows archaeological finds from excavations carried out in 1996 on Castle Hill (Góra Zamkowa), coins found at ul. Zjazd, old agricultural tools and household utensils, technology objects, books, documents and photographs. Part of the collection relates to local schooling and the volunteer fire brigade.
