About the museum
The Ethnographic Museum in Włocławek is a branch of the Museum of the Kuyavia and Dobrzyń Land. Its exhibitions were opened to visitors on 10 October 1986, and in 2026 the institution celebrates its fortieth anniversary.
Its seat is a complex of buildings on the Bulwary embankment above the Vistula, with a historic grain granary built before 1848, probably to a design by the town architect Franciszek Turnelle. In 1980–1985 a new section was added to the restored granary, its massing echoing the old building. Previously a wooden granary stood on this site; it burned down in 1862.
The permanent exhibition presents selected fields of peasant culture in Kuyavia and the Dobrzyń Land from the 19th and first half of the 20th century: painted dowry chests, village crafts, furnishings of living rooms, festive Kuyavian costumes, folk sculpture, and Shrovetide masks and instruments of folk bands.
