About the museum
The Muzeum Henryka Sienkiewicza w Woli Okrzejskiej (Henryk Sienkiewicz Museum in Wola Okrzejska) was set up in 1966 in the manor wing, in which the future Nobel laureate was born on 5 May 1846. The 19th-century manor complex once consisted of two parallel buildings of similar shape and was surrounded by a landscape park in the English style, whose trees have survived to this day. After the Second World War and the devastation that followed, only the wing survived; it was thoroughly renovated in 1965–1966.
The biographical museum opened on the 120th anniversary of the writer’s birth. The collections include family photographs, personal memorabilia of the writer, manuscripts, letters and documents, a historic book collection with first editions of Sienkiewicz’s works, and editions published in the country and abroad from all over the world. The collection of props from film adaptations of his novels is also impressive, as are a coin collection, 19th-century furniture, paintings, sculptures and folk crafts.
