About the museum
The idea of a museum of the Air Force in Dęblin was proposed in 2009 by the commander of the Air Force, and the initiative was supported by aviation enthusiasts, veterans of military aviation and soldiers. The institution opened in 2011 as a cultural institution of the Ministry of National Defence. It is located right next to the “Szkoła Orląt” in Dęblin and an aviation training unit, which is why military aircraft often fly over the exhibition.
The collection was built up through research and transfers of equipment withdrawn from service in the Polish Army. It includes more than eighty aircraft, among them the only Mi-6 helicopter in Poland, as well as souvenirs and gifts from former Air Force soldiers and private collections.
The permanent exhibition tells the story of Polish military aviation. The outdoor display covers more than two hectares, and the hangar houses an exhibition of aviation technology. Some aircraft, for example the C-130 Hercules, Jak-40 and An-26, can be entered within the ticket price. The museum also has a branch, the Muzeum Obrony Przeciwlotniczej w Koszalinie (Air Defence Museum in Koszalin).
