About the museum

Jadernówka is the former house and photographic studio of August Jaderny, who came to Mielec in 1898 as a travelling photographer and settled here permanently a year later. The studio was later run by August and Wiktor Jaderny. After the family, photographs, glass negatives and a few cameras remained, which became the core of the museum collection.

From May 1987 the building has operated as a museum. Initially it served mainly as an exhibition space, and in 1993–2002 it housed the head office of the Regional Museum in Mielec. After the head office moved to the Pałacyk Oborskich in Jadernówka, the photographic collections remained here. In 1998 they were separated from the historical department and a separate photography department was created. From 1996 the museum has also been collecting photographs and equipment unconnected with the Jaderny family.

Today the collections number more than 40 thousand objects: photographs, negatives, nearly 300 historic cameras, lenses, flash units, light meters, darkroom equipment, film cameras, projectors, and photographic press and literature. The collection is one of the largest thematic collections in the country. It is kept and shown in the original photographic studio, with its glazed gazebo preserved. The building presents a permanent exhibition of photographic equipment and temporary exhibitions related to photography.
