About the museum
In 1940 the Germans displaced the residents of Blizna and the surrounding villages and set up a test range in the forests between Dębica and Kolbuszowa. After the bombing of the research centre at Peenemünde, tests of the V-1 and V-2 rockets were moved here; from the end of 1943 until the summer of 1944 many rockets were launched from this site. Forced labour by prisoners from a nearby camp was used for the construction.
Soldiers of the Armia Krajowa (Home Army) gathered information about the range and passed rocket fragments to London, which helped the Allies to recognise the new weapon and to disrupt its guidance. In the summer of 1944 the range was destroyed by the Red Army. After the war the site was forgotten for many years.
The park was created on the initiative of the residents of Blizna, and the commune of Ostrów began developing it in 2008. It was opened to visitors in August 2011 and named after the Wywiad Armii Krajowa (Home Army Intelligence). On the site stand a full-size replica of the V-2 rocket, a reconstructed hut with an exhibition, a reconstructed observation trench, a section of fencing and railway tracks. Concrete walls mark the outlines of former buildings, and information boards explain the construction and tests of the rockets. The display cases show, among other things, memorabilia of prisoners, models of launch sites and finds from the range.
