About the museum

The Kargul and Pawlak Museum was established in 1995 on the initiative of residents of Lubomierz, with the support of the mayor at the time. The core of the collection was memorabilia gathered from 1992 by the editors of the local newspaper “Sami Swoi”, who documented the town’s film past.

Lubomierz was the location for Sylwester Chęciński’s comedy “Sami swoi” from 1967, and the town’s market square appears in several scenes of the film. The museum is on the ground floor of the Linen Makers’ House (Dom Płócienników), a historic tenement house from 1595 that was the seat of the linen makers’ guild. A Tourist Information Point is also located in the same building.

The collection includes props from the set of the trilogy, including a rifle, a fragment of the fence at which the characters argued, a contract with the stand-in of Władysław Hańcza, and the first print of the film “Sami swoi”, shown at the world premiere in 1967. In front of the entrance stand figures of Kargul and Pawlak and a signpost with distances to major cities of the world; nearby is the Film Alley (Zaułek filmowy) with plaques commemorating people of the film.
