About the museum
The Museum of Forest and Wood is part of the scientific and teaching base of the SGGW Forest Experimental Station (Leśny Zakład Doświadczalny SGGW) in Rogów. The beginnings of the collections go back to 1949–1950, and most of the exhibits date from that period. Over time the organisation of the collections changed, and successive staff gave the exhibition its present form and character. The collections serve to train students, but have long been open to tourists and school trips as well.
The museum displays more than 300 stuffed birds and more than 50 mammals from various habitats in Poland, collections of Polish and tropical insects, eggs and bird nests, bones and antlers, tree fungi, and a rich collection of cones from all over the world. Separate exhibitions are devoted to insects and bats, and the xylotheque (a wood library) holds samples of wood of various species.
An integral part of the museum is the educational room, where museum lessons are held; it is home to, among others, a gecko, stick insects and phasmids. In 2026 a new exhibition, “Mokradła – sieć życia” (Wetlands – The Web of Life), was opened, with display cases of animal and plant species, sensory panels and a floor game. Visitors can use an audio guide with two routes, in Polish and in English.
