About the museum
The Museum of Crafts in Krosno was established in 1989 on the initiative of the craft guild, and its first exhibition opened on 17 March 1990. Its seat is the Art Nouveau tenement house at ul. Piłsudskiego 19, known as the “House with a Clock”, completed in 1906 for clockmaker Michał Mięsowicz. From 1901 to 1938 the First National Tower Clock Factory (Pierwsza Krajowa Fabryka Zegarów Wieżowych) operated here, producing around 280 mechanisms for churches, town halls and railway stations.
For many years the building housed the exhibition “Dzieje rzemiosła Polski południowo-wschodniej” (History of the Crafts of South-Eastern Poland), set up in more than a dozen small craft workshops, including tailoring, shoemaking, weaving, blacksmithing and clockmaking, with guild documents from the 18th to the 20th century. In September 2023 the building was closed for renovation.
After a thorough renovation the House with a Clock operates as the Tower Clock Factory, a branch of the museum with a multimedia and interactive exhibition on time and on Mięsowicz’s work, with a family archive, clock mechanisms and a reconstructed interior of the former factory. The museum also includes the Farna Tower with a clockmaking exhibition, and the Piwnica PodCieniami (PodCieniami Cellar), where exhibitions and concerts are held.
