About the museum
The Mysłowice City Museum was established in 2006 by resolution of the City Council and is a municipal organisational unit. It is based at ul. Stadionowa 7a, on the grounds of the Central Fire Museum, but operates independently, with its own opening hours, price list and exhibition.
The permanent exhibition tells of the material culture, the political and economic history and the traditions of the people of Mysłowice from ancient times to the present day. Visitors can see archaeological finds from excavations on ul. Grunwaldzka and on the Rynek from 2001–2002, a collection of 1,700 archival photographs and reproductions of 20th-century photographs. The most valuable exhibit is a time-zone clock from 1877 made by the Gustav Becker factory in Świebodzice.
Separate sections are devoted to the First Silesian Uprising, which began in Mysłowice, to industrial development (metallurgy and coal mining, including a mine cart from the “Mysłowice” mine), and to sport, including the clubs “Siła” and “Lechia 06”. The reconstructed interiors show an Upper Silesian kitchen, bedroom and parlour from the first half of the 20th century.
