About the museum
The Museum of Minerals and Gemstones grew out of the mineral and fossil collection of Wojciech Sokołowski, who gathered specimens for more than 40 years. His interest in minerals began in 1972, right after finishing secondary school, and was at first a hobby. The museum is run privately by Beata and Wojciech Sokołowski, who also make jewellery.
The museum is located by the Park Zdrojowy in Kudowa-Zdrój, and next to it is a shop selling minerals and jewellery. The collection includes specimens from Poland, Europe, Asia and America, including agates, jaspers and amethysts from the Kotlina Kłodzka and the entire Sudetes. It is particularly known for its minerals from Dalniegorsk on the Sea of Japan and from Kercz in Crimea, as well as specimens from the disused sulphur mine in Machów near Tarnobrzeg.
The exhibition also includes a large meteorite from Africa, dinosaur eggs from the Gobi Desert, petrified wood and the largest rock crystal skull in Poland. A separate UV room displays fluorescent minerals, and the collection is complemented by minerals grown by the owners. The collection is constantly growing.
