About the museum
The Muzeum Młynarstwa i Rzemiosł Wiejskich is housed in a mill known as Młyn Grodzkiego, built in 1930 by Jan Grodzki in Niedrzwica Kościelna. In 1931 Józef Chodorowski bought a share in the mill; after a fire in January 1933 the building was rebuilt and restarted in September 1934. In 1956 the state took over the mill, and from 1971 it belonged to the cooperative “Samopomoc Chłopska”. Milling ended in 2016.
The building consists of a three-storey main section and a single-storey engine house. The lower floor has walls in Prussian-style half-timbered construction, and the upper floor is made of timber. All the original technical equipment of the mill has been preserved.
The museum is run by the foundation “Młyn Grodzkiego Muzeum Młynarstwa i Rzemiosł Wiejskich”. The official opening took place on 25 June 2023. The exhibition shows milling machines from the 1930s, tools of old crafts and thematic corners devoted to work, learning, religion and the festivals of earlier generations.
