About the museum
The Muzeum Morskiego Dywizjonu Lotniczego (Museum of the Naval Air Squadron) began operating on 1 September 2014 on the initiative of the Stowarzyszenie Historyczne Morskiego Dywizjonu Lotniczego w Pucku (Historical Association of the Naval Air Squadron in Puck). It is housed in the former radio station building of the squadron. The collections are based on the collection of Tadeusz Stankiewicz and other enthusiasts of history, and a replica of a seaplane stands on the square by the museum.
The exhibition tells the story of the Puck naval aviation base. The first naval aviation base was set up in Puck on 1 July 1920, and the squadron was stationed here until 1939. Pilots for the fleet were trained here on seaplanes of German, French and Polish types, and the squadron watched the coast and reported ship movements. The first commander, until 1922, was Wiktoryn Kaczyński, and the most frequently remembered is Edward Szystowski, who was killed during the bombing on 1 September 1939. The museum displays military souvenirs, photographs and visualisations of old aircraft.
