About the museum
The Muzeum Okręgowe w Koninie (Konin District Museum) grew out of a regional collection of mementos, opened in 1953 by a branch of PTTK (Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society), which in 1956 expanded into a Regional Museum. In 1966 the state Muzeum Zagłębia Konińskiego (Konin Coal Basin Museum) was established, and in 1975 the institution received the status of a district museum.
In 1982 the museum moved its seat to Gosławice and took over two outbuildings of the manor complex. Exhibitions in the castle opened to visitors on 30 November 1986, and in January 1990 the exhibition “Dwór Polski” (The Polish Manor) opened in the reconstructed manor house. In 2010 new exhibitions were opened in the renovated granary.
Today the museum runs permanent exhibitions in the castle, the granary and the manor house, and two open-air museums: a mining one and an ethnographic one. The museum’s departments deal with archaeology, ethnography, history, geology and nature, artistic crafts, art and technology. The museum also offers audio guides with audio description and in Polish Sign Language.
