About the museum
The Muzeum Oręża Polskiego im. 1 Brygady Pancernej im. Bohaterów Westerplatte (Museum of Polish Arms named after the 1st Armoured Brigade named after the Heroes of Westerplatte) in Studzianki Pancerne commemorates the battle fought from 9 to 15 August 1944 for a bridgehead on the left bank of the Vistula. The 1st Armoured Brigade fought in it, and its opponents included the German division “Hermann Göring”. It was the brigade’s first major battle on Polish soil.
In 1969 the village was given the name Studzianki Pancerne and its own coat of arms, and in 1978 it was awarded the Order of the Cross of Grunwald, 2nd class. A memorial room was set up in the local school, where the course of the fighting was presented; it served as a museum of the battle.
In the village there is also a steel observation tower with a view of the battlefield and a monument with a T-34 tank bearing tactical number 217. The museum has the status of a national memorial site. Opening hours and ticket prices have not been published.
