About the museum

Drezdenko’s museum traditions date back to 1885, when Mayor Adolf Reckling founded a museum here. The collections were lost in 1945. After the war, efforts to establish a new institution were made in the 1970s by Franciszek Graś, who gathered souvenirs of the town’s history. After a short-lived museum room was closed down, he chose the historic granary on Wolności Square as its seat.

The half-timbered granary, dating from about 1640, was originally an arsenal. Renovation works began in autumn 1981, and in January 1982 the Regional Museum was established. The museum opened in 1985, and since 2001 it has borne the name of Franciszek Graś. In its first years it was supported by museum professionals from Gorzów Wielkopolski.

Today the exhibition occupies three levels: on the ground floor, in the former gunpowder store, is the historical exhibition, with a room for temporary exhibitions; on the first floor is the ethnographic exhibition; and in the attic is the natural history exhibition, with more than two hundred mounted birds, fish and animals of the forests. In the ethnographic exhibition the objects stand outside display cases, and some of them can be touched.
