About the museum
The museum was established in 1987 on the initiative of the Towarzystwo Miłośników Ziemi Sokołowskiej (Society of Friends of the Sokołów Land). The first nucleus of the collection consisted of memorabilia handed over by residents of the town and the surrounding villages. In November 2013 the collections were moved to a new seat at ul. Rzeszowska 29.
The institution occupies the upper floor of a former school complex, which after the school moved out in 1998 was thoroughly renovated and divided among several institutions. The local action group (lokalna grupa działania) also has its seat on the same floor. The museum is still run by the Society of Friends of the Sokołów Land, which publishes an annual report of its activities in the “Rocznik Sokołowski” (Sokołów Yearbook).
The collections include historical memorabilia, among them documents, photographs, military objects and archaeological finds, as well as ethnographic collections: folk costumes, everyday objects and craft tools. A separate collection consists of Judaica connected with the former Jewish community of Sokołów, as well as folk art products.
