About the museum
The Traditional Farmstead – Ochaby Open-Air Museum (Skansen Ochaby) was created out of the passion and initiative of Maciej and Urszula Bieniek, who set out to save the cultural heritage of the region. The open-air museum opened in May 2014. The investment cost over PLN one million, and the owner financed a large part of it, with support from the local fishing group.
The site occupies a traditional village farmstead with a stable and coach house, a barn, a cottage, a windmill and a shelter. It displays collections gathered over several decades: implements, tools and equipment from farm, fishing and household settings, as well as objects used by craftsmen from various periods of history. A separate collection consists of historic horse-drawn vehicles and cars.
For groups the open-air museum organises educational workshops on traditional farm work, cultural and culinary heritage, and old games and pastimes. It is described as the largest museum of historic farm, fishing and household buildings in southern Poland.
