About the museum

The museum is located in the B-Werk combat bunker, built in 1935 as part of the Pomeranian Position (Pozycja Pomorska, also known as the Pomeranian Wall). The bunker took no part in the fighting for Szczecinek in February 1945. In March 1945 Soviet sappers blew up the main armour and damaged the upper level, and the lower floor was filled with rubble. In the 60s a gravel pit was opened on the site, which gradually exposed the whole structure. Despite the damage, it is the best-preserved bunker of its kind in Pomerania.

In 2009 fortification enthusiasts asked the mayor to lease the facility for a museum. Volunteers removed around 40 tonnes of rubble from inside, repaired the ceiling, brought in water and electricity, and then restored the fittings, including the original armoured doors. In July 2012 the museum was entered in the state register of museums, and in 2015 the bunker was placed on the register of monuments as the only object of the Pomeranian Position. In the same year, a T-34/85 tank and six guns were placed in front of the bunker.

The museum is not a typical display of cases: visitors learn about the technical solutions of the bunkers, the fortification system and the fighting to break through them. Since 2019 volunteers have also been uncovering and securing bunkers of the “von der Goltz” Fortress Group on Góra Śmiadowska, and in 2014 they marked out twelve tourist and historical routes along the Pomeranian Position in the district.
