About the museum
The beginnings of the Muzeum Wiejskie in Batorz go back to the end of the 1960s, when Zdzisław Latos, head teacher of the local school, who had been collecting souvenirs since the early 1950s, set up the first memorial room in the school. It was officially opened on 24 October 1969. After Latos left, the collections were dispersed and the room was closed.
A new collection was made available on 11 July 1999 in three rooms of the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury (Municipal Cultural Centre). In 2006–2007, with EU funds, the former commune office building was renovated to house the museum, and the official opening in the new seat took place on 14 September 2008. The concept of the exhibition refers to the legacy of Zdzisław Latos.
Four rooms show the history, culture, traditions and customs of Batorz and the surrounding area. The exhibits include old tools and everyday objects of village residents, largely donated by local people, as well as collections from Zdzisław Latos and docent S. Cieliński.
