About the museum

The palace in Kozłówka was built in 1735–1742, probably to a design by Józef Fontana, for the Bielińscy family. In 1799 the estate was bought by Aleksander Zamoyski, and in 1836 it passed to Jan Zamoyski. In 1897–1914 Konstanty Zamoyski rebuilt and extended the whole palace complex, and from 1903 Kozłówka was the seat of the Kozłówka entail (ordynacja kozłowiecka).

In 1944 the estate was nationalised. On 4 November 1944 the palace was handed over to the ministry of culture and art, and soon the first museum in Poland in the areas liberated from German occupation was established here. From 1976 the palace interiors were open to visitors, in 1977 the Muzeum-Pałac was created, and in 1992 the institution took the name Muzeum Zamoyskich w Kozłówce. Since 1999 the organiser has been the self-government of the Lublin Voivodeship, and in 2007 the palace and park complex was recognised as a historic monument (pomnik historii).

The palace has preserved interiors from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries together with the library and the chapel. In the renovated northern pavilion, a former 18th-century carriage house, the Galeria Sztuki Socrealizmu has been operating since 1994. On the grounds you can also see an exhibition on Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in Kozłówka in 1940–1941, the multimedia exhibition “Kozłówka na osi czasu” (Kozłówka on a Timeline), and the park.
