About the museum
The Słomniki Land Museum opened in October 2002 on the initiative of the Association for the Development of the Słomniki Municipality. Several people involved in protecting local history stood behind its establishment: the association's then president, teachers and the headmistress of the local school, and a volunteer curator. Together they gathered an impressive collection of memorabilia and documents.
In 2009 the association handed the museum over to the care of the Town and Municipal Culture Centre in Słomniki. With funding from the Małopolska Voivodeship Marshal's Office, the premises of a former industrial plant behind the culture centre were renovated and equipped with modern display cases and audio-visual equipment. The new seat was officially opened on 10 December 2009, when the museum presented a collection of 44 archival photographs of Słomniki from the interwar period.
The museum has four rooms. The first holds memorabilia from the interwar years; the largest, central room presents the history of the Słomniki land in chronological order and is also used for museum lessons and lectures; the third shows the traditions of the surrounding villages; and the fourth is intended for photographic, painting and other exhibitions.
