About the museum
The Underground Tourist Route in Przemyśl is a project co-organised by the Przemyśl Municipal Office and the National Museum of the Przemyśl Land (Muzeum Narodowe Ziemi Przemyskiej), and it is currently run by the Przemyśl Sports and Recreation Centre (Przemyski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji). The route runs through a dozen or so cellars under the town hall building, a historic sewer and a newly built link to the cellars of the tenement house at Rynek 9, the seat of the Museum of the History of the City of Przemyśl.
The exhibition is titled “Złoty wiek miasta. Jak Przemyśl stał się bogaty, piękny i sławny” (The Golden Age of the City: How Przemyśl Became Rich, Beautiful and Famous). In more than thirty rooms it presents the Renaissance city of the 16th century in an interactive way, and the layout of the cellars corresponds to the topography of old Przemyśl. Visitors come across, among other things, Mostowa Street with a multimedia burgher table, Baszta Street, where virtual goggles show the lower tower, as well as a mill, a landing stage, a haberdashery stall and a former pharmacy.
In the rooms under Rynek 9 there is an exhibition on the Kazimierz Castle (Zamek Kazimierzowski) with a model and presentations of the construction phases, and a gallery of the starosts of Przemyśl. For children a small theatre has been prepared, showing the old professions of the town's residents.
