About the museum
The Muzeum Kultury Łemkowskiej in Zyndranowa was set up on the site of the former farmstead of the Gocz family. After the forced resettlement of the Lemko population in 1945–1947, some residents returned to their home region after 1957. One of them was Teodor Gocz, who began collecting Lemko souvenirs and wartime relics in the old hut. The exhibition room officially opened on 17 August 1968.
Over the following decades the institution changed custodians several times: it was linked to the museum in Dukla, then as a branch to the museum in Krosno, and since 2002 it has been looked after by the Towarzystwo na Rzecz Rozwoju Muzeum Kultury Łemkowskiej w Zyndranowej. The farmstead gradually grew, with a forge, a chapel and a cottage moved from Tylawa. In 2011, a modern exhibition pavilion was built with EU funds.
Today the open-air museum includes a hut from 1860 with a porch, a living room, the office of the village scribe and shoemaker’s and weaver’s workshops, a stable with military items from both World Wars, a forge and a reconstruction of a Lemko chapel. The pavilion displays folk costumes, sculptures, painted Easter eggs (pisanki), old photographs, paintings and liturgical objects. Every July, the festival of Lemko culture “Od Rusal do Jana” takes place on the grounds.
