About the museum
The art-historical exhibition of the Museum of Ukrainian Culture opened in the manor house in Svidník in 1983, in ten exhibition halls with an area of 300 m². The manor house is the oldest secular building in the town and is listed as a monument; originally it was a manor court from the 17th century, which was rebuilt in the Late Baroque style in the first half of the 19th century.
The precondition for the exhibition was the donation of most of the artistic estate of the painter Dezider Milly by his widow, Priska Millyová, to the museum, and the subsequent reconstruction of the manor house. In the vestibule stands a wooden sculpture with a bronze bust of Dezider Milly by Ján Kulich.
The exhibition presents the development of folk and professional fine art of Ukrainians in Slovakia from the 16th century to the present. The dominant feature is a collection of icons from the 16th to 18th centuries, complemented by works of the founders of the Transcarpathian school of painting and other artists; the central place is held by the works of Dezider Milly (1906–1971).
