About the museum
The Lachy Farmstead “Kubalówka” was created in Podegrodzie as a private initiative of the regionalist Krzysztof Bodziony and his family; the name derives from the Bodziony family, formerly called the Kubale. The reconstruction of the farmstead began in 2000 with the erection of a granary, in which all the collections were initially housed. In 2001 a forge was moved onto the site, and in 2003 a wooden cottage from 1858.
Most of the work was done by Krzysztof Bodziony together with his family and residents of the village, who also helped to furnish the interiors with historic objects. The farmstead shows the layout and furnishings of a typical farm of the Lachy Sądeckie (Sącz Lachy) from the early 20th century.
In the entrance hall (sień) of the cottage one can see tools for processing flax and hemp, cooperage, carpentry and roofing tools, irons and harness parts. The kitchen has a large bread oven, carved furniture and pottery, and the main room (izba) has beds, carved chests, a pole with traditional Podegrodzie costumes, and religious paintings decorated with paper flowers. The forge has a hearth, bellows, an anvil and traditional blacksmith’s tools. The owners also organise craft workshops and events linked to the ritual calendar. The farmstead is one of the home museums of Lesser Poland.
