About the museum
The Núcleo Museológico de Alcaria dos Javazes, opened in 2012, is located in a village about 20 km south of Mértola. It results from a partnership between the Câmara Municipal, a private collector and the Junta de Freguesia do Espírito Santo (parish council).
Housed in a former village house, it links the objects to the people, their experiences and the territory. Everyday objects, now museum pieces, tell of times marked by simplicity and hardship. They belong to the collection of Orlando José, who over his lifetime kept testimonies of the past, presented here in temporary thematic exhibitions.
