About the museum
The museum is housed in the rural house known as “Casa Fabrica”, on the slope of Montecchio facing Monte Carpegna, and was set up to protect a cultural heritage to be handed down to future generations. The building is also the seat of the Consorzio Terra di San Marino, which devised the project and looks after the protection and promotion of local specialities. The museum describes itself as the first museum in the Republic that is fully accessible and tactile for visitors with disabilities.
The route passes through the rooms of the farmhouse. It begins in the kitchen, with the hearth, tools for making cheese and cured meats, water containers and a dough-mixing machine. Next is the weaving room with a large loom and tools for working hemp; then the bedroom with its wrought-iron bed, chest and hanging cradle. At the top is the granary, which also houses a carpenter’s bench, a cobbler’s corner, lamps and the weighing tools of old trades.
