About the museum
The Museo delle Cere, opened in 1966, is the first private museum on Monte Titano. It is on Via Lapicidi Marini, in the historic centre of the City of San Marino, between the three towers and the Palazzo Pubblico. The route traces the history of the Republic and also covers many other key moments in world history, from Napoleone Bonaparte to Giuseppe Garibaldi.
The exhibition includes 40 historical scenes with 100 wax figures, recreated with period settings and costumes. The museum takes its inspiration from institutions such as Madame Tussauds in London and the Grévin in Paris. One section is devoted to San Marino’s institutions and traditions, another to instruments of torture, including the guillotine, the pillory, the neck collar and the Chinese rat cage.
