About the museum
Count Juraj Apponyi had the Apponyi Palace built in 1761–1762, remodelling an older Baroque building into the Rococo form the palace has kept to this day. The town bought it in 1867, and the museum has been housed here since 1926. After a reconstruction in 2004–2008 the palace is a separate building with no direct connection to the Old Town Hall.
On the ground floor is the viticulture exhibition, which continues the Bratislava Wine Museum opened in 1932. Part of the exhibition was once in the medieval cellars in the basement, which were reconstructed in 1966. Today the National Wine Salon is located in the basement.
On the first and second floors visitors can see the preserved Rococo interiors with their original decoration. These spaces were preserved thanks to the extensive reconstruction of 2004–2008. The entrance fee applies jointly with the Old Town Hall.
