About the museum
The house was built in the 17th century and in 1755 received two open staircases with loggias. Since 1909 its façade has carried a Baroque relief, The Coronation of the Virgin Mary, from the 18th century, which comes from the birth house of the composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel. That house stood next door. Today the house lies in the courtyard of a neo-Baroque rental building from 1910.
In 1937, on the centenary of the composer's birth, the city established his museum here. The Múzeum J. N. Hummela is housed in the Renaissance garden house in a small courtyard behind a music shop and has been re-installed several times; the most recent revision coincides with the 170th anniversary of the composer's death in 2007.
