About the museum
The idea of opening up part of the Kremnica underground arose in 2007. A group of enthusiasts and lovers of mining history, led by Ing. Dušan Roob, set about restoring an abandoned adit, and after months of safety work the museum was officially opened in August 2008. Since then more than 90,000 visitors have passed through it.
The main exhibition is in the Andrej exploration adit from 1982. A 650-metre route is open to the public, documenting the history of gold and silver ore mining at the Šturec deposit in Kremnica. During the hour-long tour, visitors wearing helmets with headlamps walk past workings from different periods, from the beginning of the 16th to the end of the 20th century. The operator is the company Ortac s.r.o., in cooperation with the civic association Banské múzeum Kremnica.
