About the museum
The idea of presenting kitsch arose in 1973 and was first realised at the Slovenské Gagy festival in 1982. Today the exhibition, with more than 4,000 exhibits, and the Alley of Famous Noses are an indispensable part of the Kremnické Gagy festival and the Museum of Kitsch. The Alley of Famous Noses was created on 28 August 2004, at the 24th festival of humour and satire; the idea came from Roman Vykysalý, and the symbol of the nose on the relief was designed by the humorist Stano Radič.
The museum is run by the civic association Múzeum gýča (Museum of Kitsch), made up of volunteers, who are pensioners. The collection is constantly supplemented by donors. It is divided into sections, such as retro electronics, works of art in the style of socialist realism, decorations typical of the 1970s and 1980s, books and printed matter, clothing and accessories, and souvenirs. Visitors are accompanied by a guide.
