About the museum
The Dom Karpatskonemeckého spolku v Handlovej (House of the Carpathian German Society in Handlová), also called the Dom stretávania karpatských Nemcov (House of Meetings of the Carpathian Germans), belongs to the Slovenské národné múzeum – Múzeum kultúry karpatských Nemcov (Slovak National Museum – Museum of the Culture of the Carpathian Germans). It serves as a meeting place for the local German community and at the same time as an exhibition space.
In September 2004 the exhibition Dejiny a kultúra Handlovej (History and Culture of Handlová) was opened to the public. It presents the history of the town's settlement, the tradition of mining and crafts, and objects that document the traditional material, spiritual and artistic culture of the German ethnic group in Handlová.
Access to the exhibitions is step-free. The museum offers publications on the history and culture of the Carpathian Germans, as well as guided commentary, which must be booked in advance.
